Kate Middleton was reportedly scolded by the late Queen Elizabeth for her jet-setting ways in the early years of her relationship with Prince William.
According to royal expert Katie Nicholl’s book “William and Harry,” the monarch, who died in Sept. 2022, was bothered by the number of vacations the Duchess of Cambridge, 41, would take annually.
Middleton and William, 41, became engaged in late 2010 and married the following year, however, the Queen was adamant that the Princess of Wales should get a job rather than island hopping.
One such luxurious trip was when William and Middleton took a trip to the Caribbean province of Mustique in 2009, the book said.
“If [Middleton] was not with William at Balmoral then the couple were skiing or holidaying on Mustique,” Nicholl penned.
“Kate was there so often the press dubbed her ‘Queen of Mustique,’ a title that had previously belonged to Princess Margaret,” she went on, referring to the former sovereign’s younger sister.
The book alleged that while Middleton and the Duke of Cambridge were on the island enjoying the fancy lifestyle, the rest of the United Kingdom was struggling during the economic recession in the late 2000s.
“Such frivolous displays of wealth were unpalatable to the Queen,” the author wrote.
Nicholl added: “While the rest of the world speculated that an engagement was on the horizon for William and Kate, the Queen believed an announcement should be postponed until Kate was settled in a career.”
One insider divulged to the “Vanity Fair” contributor when she was writing the biography that “it is Her Majesty’s opinion that if Kate is one day going to be William’s consort, then she needs a proper job.”
Before officially entering the royal family, Middleton worked various jobs including doing marketing for her parents’ events supplies company, Party Pieces, as well as being an accessories buyer for the clothing brand Jigsaw Junior.
Nicholl added that Middleton was “swanning from one five-star holiday resort to another is not the prerequisite for a young woman possibly destined to be queen.”
According to the journalist, the Queen’s words “stung” the Duchess.
Middleton seemed to have taken the monarch’s words to heart and now, 12 years into her marriage, she is considered to be the true “power behind the throne.” An expert recently dished that she is tough enough to stand by William’s side as they undertake royal engagements.
True Royalty TV co-founder Nick Bullen told Fox News that the mother of three is full of “steeliness” and is a “very strong character.”
“[She] has transitioned from being a young bride to being a key player within the royal family,” he said. “She’s now every inch the princess. And I think at the coronation, everyone agreed that she looked very much the next queen.”
