Former royal family member Sarah Ferguson has revealed the beautiful final words that Queen Elizabeth II told her before her death last September.
The queen, who reigned for 70 years at the time of her death, passed on Sept. 8, 2022, at the age of 96 in Scotland.
The topic came about while Ferguson, 63, was discussing her battle with breast cancer, as she believes the experience has encouraged her to be her true self and “wake up.”
“It’s the last thing that the queen said to me: ‘Just be yourself, Sarah,’” Ferguson recalled during the Aug. 30 episode of her podcast, “Tea Talks With the Duchess & Sarah.”
“And she saw it,” the Duchess of York continued. “She just got so annoyed when I wasn’t being myself. And that’s probably when I got into all the pickles. But now I am myself, and I’m just so lucky to be able to be myself.”
The Post reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment.
It’s unclear exactly when the late monarch told Fergie those words, but the weekend before she died, the queen was reportedly “full of fun,” according to one clergyman who was with her.
The Right Rev. Iain Greenshields, 68, told the Times of London last year that he had dinner on Saturday and then Sunday lunch with the queen in Balmoral, just four days before her death.
“It was a fantastic visit,” he said. “Her memory was absolutely amazing, and she was really full of fun,” he said of his visit.
“It came as a great shock to me when I heard she was gravely ill because she was in amazingly good form over the weekend … It was only a few days ago, I can’t believe it,” he continued.
King Charles III and his sister, Princess Anne, were also present for the lunch.
She died nearly three and a half hours before the rest of the world found out about her passing.
Ferguson herself was once married to King Charles’ younger brother, the disgraced Prince Andrew, 63, from 1986 to 1996. After the divorce, she was stripped of the “Her Royal Highness” title but was still allowed to be called a duchess.
The pair share two children together, Princess Beatrice, 35, and Princess Eugenie, 33.
She seemed to have been on rocky terms with the royal family for years, per Town & Country, and was not invited to Prince William’s 2011 wedding to Kate Middleton.
But in recent years, her relationship with them has appeared stronger than usual, although she still wasn’t invited to King Charles’ coronation ceremony this past May at Westminster Abbey.
She said she never “expected” to get an invite, telling Hello! Magazine, “You can’t have it both ways, you can’t be divorced and then say, ‘I want this …’ [You’re in] or you’re out. I think it’s really great to be supportive big time.”
In June, the Duchess of York was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer after a routine mammogram, which her sister urged her to get.
She later underwent a mastectomy.
“The duchess is receiving the best medical care and her doctors have told her that the prognosis is good,” read a statement released by her rep.
