For just 20 weeks, the original “Book of Mormon” stars Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells return to Broadway.
The dynamic duo are starring in “Gutenberg! The Musical!” at the James Earl Jones Theatre up until Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024.
“I think the Beatles regret never getting back together,” Gad joked in an interview with Broadway Time. “And I don’t want to be The Beatles of our time.”
In the comedic show, which debuted at New York City’s Upright Citizen Brigade Theatre back in 2003, Gad and Rannells play Bud Davenport and Doug Simon respectively, two writers trying to bring what the New York Times calls a “deeply misguided and tragically under-researched” Johannes Gutenberg musical to Broadway.
Over the course of the two-hour musical, the pair don different baseball hats in an effort to differentiate between all the characters in their stage play.
“We’re calling it the ‘Hamilton’ of this generation,” Gad quipped.
“It’s literally a hat on a hat on a hat on a hat,” Rannells told the New York Times.
And if you want to see this buzzy, outrageous new show live, it isn’t too late to scoop up tickets.
At the time of publication, tickets are available for all upcoming productions and some are going for as low as $67 before fees on Vivid Seats.
Many other shows start in the $70 to $95 range.

“Gutenberg! The Musical!” cast
This musical really is a two-hander with Gad and Rannells doing all the heavy lifting.
In case you’re not up to date on their careers, here’s what they’ve done over the past decade or so since their “Book Of Mormon” run:
Josh Gad has been all over the place post-“Book of Mormon.” Most notably, he voiced Olaf in “Frozen” and played LeFou in the live-action remake of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” Other major roles include a star turn in FX’s “The Comedians,” voice work in Apple TV’s “Central Park” and the film “The Wedding Ringer.”
Andrew Rannells is just as ubiquitous as Gad. In addition to winning a Grammy for “The Book of Mormon,” he appeared in Hulu’s “Welcome to Chippendales,” Netflix’s “The Prom,” Peacock’s “Girls5eva,” HBO’s “Girls,” Showtime’s “Black Monday” and a slew of other projects.
