Arrest warrant issued for Hornets’ Miles Bridges

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Hornets star Miles Bridges for an alleged violation of a protective order stemming from a previous domestic violence incident.

The warrant from the Mecklenburg County (N.C.) Sheriff’s Office has been out since January, but deputies have not been able to serve it, and, therefore, further details of the allegations are unclear, according to WSCO-TV in Charlotte.

Bridges pleaded no contest to felony charges last November, stemming from an incident in Los Angeles last summer in which he was accused of choking his girlfriend, breaking her nose and giving her a concussion.

He was sentenced to probation and 100 hours of community service, plus ordered to attend parenting classes and counseling.

The victim was granted a 10-year restraining order against Bridges.

Bridges had reportedly been about to receive a max contract offer worth $173 million from the Hornets days before his arrest.

Ultimately, he signed a one-year qualifying offer worth $7.9 million with the Hornets this past July.

The NBA suspended Bridges for 30 games due to the domestic violence incident, giving him credit for 20 games time-served on account of missing all of last season.

“The process (with Bridges) was that we worked with his representatives and the players association that he sat out the entire season,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver told CBS Sports this past April when the 30-game suspension was announced.

“And so we felt, on the balance, that because he had sat out an entire season and not been paid for an entire season, that we thought in fairness that would give him partial credit, I think, for having sat out that season.”

Bridges was selected 12th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Clippers and traded to the Hornets for a package that included Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, whom they selected with the previous pick.

In the 2021-22 season, Bridges averaged 20.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for the Hornets.
