They made a swift run to the box office.
Taylor Swift mania continues to rock the nation as “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” a film based on her concert tour, was officially released on Friday.
Loyal legions of Swifties are flocking to see the flick, which made $39 million at the box office Friday and over $100 million in presales.
Moviegoers are dressing as her and her alleged new beau, Travis Kelce, selling movie merch for hundreds of dollars on eBay — and making scores of friendship bracelets and trading them at the theater, as is tradition at Swift’s concerts.
Syracuse, N.Y. resident Angel Fikes made 200 bracelets to bring to the movie, which she saw in New Orleans on her birthday the night before it came out — after Swift released some preview showings on Thursday nationwide, which raked in $2.8 million.
“I started once she announced that she was doing the movie, making them every night, some nights 20 plus,” said Fikes, 37. “They’re all different song lyric quotes from her.”
The popcorn buckets and cups that come with refreshment purchases and the mini posters given out for free by AMC Theatres are already being peddled for hundreds.
Memphis, T.N. resident Sara Barton thinks those sales dupe fans of the “Shake it Off” singer — whose Eras tour is predicted to make her $4.1 billion.
“It think it’s totally unfair,” Barton, 31, said. “I think there a lot of people who went in there and bought tons of them and then are reselling them for crazy amounts of money and some take advantage of the Taylor Swift market that way.”
In an unprecedented move, Swift struck an agreement with AMC Theatres and Cinemark Theatres for distribution of the film after her negotiations with film studios failed.
AMC also created its own branded bracelets, and employees trade them with fans at the theater.
Tickets are priced at $19.89, the name of Swift’s fifth album.
Children up to 12 and seniors over 60 pay $13.13, her lucky number.
Springfield, Missouri resident Ashley DiFonzo saw the film on Friday with her best friends, one who donned a Chiefs sweatshirt.
“With us being located in southern Missouri, there were several fans in our theater that had on Kansas City Chiefs gear,” said DiFonzo, 26. “Travis has been a fan favorite among us Chiefs fans for years, so as a Swiftie, it’s been fun to witness this pop culture phenomenon.”
After dominating football, the next season Swift will take over is Halloween — with many of her adoring fans dressing up in her likeness.
Fikes’ costume — a gold dress with fringe and cowboy boots — is based on her song “Fearless.”
“That’s my favorite song by her. I actually wore it to the movie and I plan to wear it then too,” she said.
Barton is taking a different approach to honor the singer.
“I’m going to be one of Taylor Swift’s cats,” she said.
Swift also has plans to command another holiday — Christmas, and already filed to trademark the term “Swiftmas.”
“She’s definitely in every other area, so I think it’s on brand for her to do something like that,” DiFonzo said.
Fikes agreed.
“I think it’s great,” she gushed. “Anything she does or touches, I truly feel just puts so much greatness into the world.”
