Deion Sanders, Colorado land possible replacement for Shedeur

Deion Sanders may have just landed Colorado’s successor to his son, Shedeur, at quarterback.

The Buffaloes are adding four-star recruit Antwann Hill Jr., a Class of 2025 quarterback from Georgia, he announced on social media.

“IM HOMEEEE SKOOOBUFFSSSS,” he said on X with a buffalo emoji.

Hill is a 6-foot-5, 215-pound quarterback from Warner Robbins, where he has built himself into one of the most naturally intriguing quarterbacks in high school.

Hill is ranked as a top-70 recruit nationally, according to 247 Sports, and is fourth at the quarterback position in the ESPN Jr. 300, which lists him in their national top 50.

The skilled signal-caller also received offers from Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Auburn and Tennessee, among several other schools, according to ESPN.

Hill said that his visit to Colorado to watch the Buffaloes play Stanford last week was a selling point to getting his commitment.

“The crowd, fans yelling my name, saying, ‘We want AJ,” Hill said, according to ESPN. “That was one thing I haven’t seen before and I wasn’t expecting from that visit. So, I mean, everything really just surprised me. “That felt good, because it’s a very supportive fan base that’s all behind the team.”

Regarding his fit in Colorado, Hill added that, “[The coaches] really think I really fit their scheme, what they got going on up there,” Hill said. “Coach [Sean] Lewis, Coach Prime, they really want me to take over once Shedeur leaves, so I mean, I’d be the next guy up that will be a highly ranked quarterback to get that position. And I feel like I’d be good learning from Shedeur. Just taking notes from him, taking his leadership skills and putting them into mine. Really, they were saying, be ready to take over once Shedeur leaves because I’m the next man up.”

According to MaxPreps, the junior has 6,360 career passing yards with a 65.9 completion percentage and 71 touchdowns to just 11 interceptions.

Through seven games this season, Hill has 1,814 yards through the air and 23 touchdowns with just two interceptions.

He’s coming off a sophomore campaign where he accumulated 3,663 passing yards and recorded 40 touchdowns with three interceptions.

Sanders has 2,420 passing yards and 21 touchdowns this season go go along with three interceptions for the 4-3 Buffaloes.

Sanders also has completed 72.3 percent of his passes and has rushed for three touchdowns.

Before his stint at Colorado, Sanders played under the tutelage of his father at Jackson State where he was 2022 SWAC Offensive Player of the Year and the 2021 Jerry Rice Award given to the Most Outstandingthe Freshman at a Division I FCS school.

Sanders could enter the 2024 NFL Draft, but his father indicated earlier this fall that he does not want to be a “backseat rider” to anyone, including Caleb Williams, who is expected to be the top overall pick this coming year.
