Carmelo Anthony is headlining the 2024 class of the revamped New York City Basketball Hall of Fame, The Post has learned.
Anthony, the Brooklyn native and former Knicks All-Star, will be joined in the class by streetball legend Joe Hammond and former Christ the King (Queens) and New York Liberty star Tina Charles, among others.
The NYC Basketball HOF required a relaunch after six years of dormancy because most of the original founders — a group that included local basketball legends Tom Konchalski, Cecil Watkins, Bob Williams and Howard Garfinkel — passed away.
The new group, spearheaded by president Nate “Tiny” Archibald and CEO Michael Cohen, moved the records online to hoopshallny.org. It is scouting venues for both a physical hall of fame and the 2024 induction ceremony, according to Tom Lockhart, the organization’s secretary general.
Lockhart said the hope is to hold the ceremony next summer at the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan, the site of the previous induction events. The NYC Basketball HOF started in 1990 with an inaugural class that included Red Auerbach, Bob Cousy, Connie Hawkins, Dolph Schayes and Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
The 2024 class — the first since 2017 — has added a sportscaster category to recognize ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith and an Arts and Culture Award honoring director Spike Lee, actor Denzel Washington and author Charley Rosen, The Post learned.
But the biggest name is Anthony, who retired from basketball in May. The 39-year-old was born in Red Hook, endeared himself to the NYC community while with the Knicks and currently sits ninth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. His son, Kiyan, is a top college prospect who played for Christ the King.
Other 2024 inductees include Lauren Cargill (CUNY all-time leading scorer), Ron Naclerio (winningest coach in PSAL history), Ronnie Nunn (former NBA official) and, as a special recognition award recipient, Mike Malone (Queens native and current NBA champion head coach of the Nuggets).
The Knicks made a flurry of fringe roster moves the last two days, and it’s easiest to present the end result in categories (determined through Knicks announcements, reports and league sources).
Players on opening day roster: Ryan Arcidiacono, DaQuan Jeffries, Dylan Windler
Two-way contracts: Jacob Toppin, Duane Washington Jr. (according to SNY), Charlie Brown Jr.
Cuts: Isaiah Roby, Jaylen Martin, Nathan Knight
Arcidiacono and Jeffries have been part of the program for a couple of years and entered as favorites to claim roster spots. Along with Windler, they will have their contracts guaranteed if they’re not waived by Jan. 10, according to Spotrac. Their deals are worth over $2 million apiece if guaranteed.
Toppin, the younger brother of former Knick and current Pacer Obi Toppin, is the only rookie of the remaining group and will likely spend most of his time with G-League Westchester. Two-way players earn 50 percent of the NBA’s rookie minimum salary.
