Kelly Clarkson has a PSA for those who thought that she dissed Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship — she’s “pro-romance.” The American Idol alum, 41, wrote an Instagram statement defending the previous comment she made about football and entertainment’s “it” couple.

“Just a quick public service announcement, everybody, since this seems to be breaking news,” Kelly began in her note, which she posted on October 22. “Do not fall prey to clickbait, trash reporters twisting the facts again. I am pro-romance. Yay romance.” She then asked readers, “Did y’all even watch what I actually said on my show?”

Kelly added, “I just said I want to watch football when I tune in to watch football. Seems an appropriate request. OK, carry on. Go, Cowboys! [sic]”

Two weeks prior, the “Since U Been Gone” hitmaker discussed the ongoing hype over Taylor, 33, and Travis’ relationship on her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, with Saturday Night Live cast member Bowen Yang.

“It’s not hilarious how it is literally taking over the NFL for people that like watching sports now,” Kelly pointed out. “It’s like you’re watching [The Real] Housewives while you’re watching.”

Taylor has attended four Kansas City Chiefs games so far this season. Viewers have noticed that they can get a glimpse at the Grammy Award winner at any point during each game when the camera cuts to her cheering on the team. Though some sports fans simply want to watch the games, they’re not the only ones who have questioned why the NFL continues to zoom in on Taylor in the stands. Even Travis, 34, previously called out the league for “overdoing” its coverage on Taylor “a little bit” on an episode of his and Jason Kelces “New Heights” podcast.

Nevertheless, he concluded that while the live coverage has teased his “situation” with Taylor, Travis believes “they’re just trying to have fun with it.”

In response to the criticism, the NFL took the time to release a statement to defend its live coverage, noting, “The vast majority of our content has remained focused on the game, our players and variety of other initiatives.”

“We frequently change our bios and profile imagery based on what’s happening in and around our games, as well as culturally,” the league explained. “The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has been a pop cultural moment we’ve leaned into in real time, as it’s an intersection of sport and entertainment, and we’ve seen an incredible amount of positivity around the sport.”
