Suns vs. Warriors pick
Two teams with legitimate NBA title hopes battle in the season opener tonight when the Golden State Warriors host the Phoenix Suns.
Golden State is favored by 3.5 points on BetMGM Sportsbook and that line feels right. The Warriors’ 33-8 home record last year was third-best in the NBA, and I think they’ll start off the 2023-24 season with a home win as well.
What helps Golden State is that Bradley Beal is unlikely to play with back tightness and Devin Booker is questionable with a toe issue. Beal was a huge addition for Phoenix in the offseason and his absence should limit the Suns’ scoring ability, and if Booker also doesn’t play, then it’s basically 35-year-old Kevin Durant in a one-man show.
The Warriors aren’t devoid of injuries either because Draymond Green will miss the game with an ankle sprain, but I trust Golden State’s cohesiveness without him on the floor tonight. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are still suiting up and after a training camp with Chris Paul, the Warriors should have a decent rapport with the Point God.
