As the trade deadline nears, the Yankees appeared to still be following the two-tiered strategy of seeing if they both could sell some players while buying for now and the future.
The buy continued to be built around if they could find a long-term answer for left field and St. Louis Cardinals switch-hitter Dylan Carlson, who will not be a free agent until the 2026 season, remains a player of interest.

The Yankees at least floated the name of Clay Holmes in talks, but apparently made it clear that the price would be so high for their closer that a deal appeared unlikely.
