Music greats from around the world gathered at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center in New York City on Friday (Nov. 3) to celebrate and welcome a new class into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during the annual induction ceremony.
The 2023 inductees were Sheryl Crow, Kate Bush, Rage Against the Machine, George Michael, Missy Elliott, Willie Nelson and The Spinners. Recognized for their musical influence were DJ Kool Herc and Link Wray, while Chaka Khan, Al Cooper and Bernie Taupin were honored for their musical excellence, and Don Cornelius received the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
Singer-songwriter Crow — who was introduced by Oscar-winner Laura Dern — opened up the show with a performance that included rising pop superstar Olivia Rodrigo, as well as rock icons Stevie Nicks and Peter Frampton. Jazmine Sullivan introduced Chaka Khan, who took the stage alongside H.E.R., and later Common. The late, great George Michael — who died at age 53 on Christmas Day 2016 — was inducted as Miguel, Adam Levine and Carrie Underwood paid tribute by performing some of his greatest hits.
Other musical luminaries presenting and/or performing at the star-studded event — which streamed live on Disney+ — included LL Cool J (who inducted DJ Kool Herc), Elton John (inducting his longtime writing partner Taupin), Dave Matthews, St. Vincent, Chris Stapleton, Ice-T, Brandi Carlile, Queen Latifah, Big Boi and New Edition.
