Teary Deshaun Watson broken up about season-ending injury

An emotional Deshaun Watson addressed reporters on Wednesday after news emerged that he will miss the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury.

Fighting back tears, Watson admitted that he is going through a hard time.

“It’s very tough,” he said, as covered by Cleveland.com.

“Heard about it, but I’m going to make sure I keep my head above water and make sure I stay in touch with all the guys, and support them as much as I possibly can and attack this rehab process after surgery and make sure that I’m doing whatever I can to be beneficial for this team while not actually being on the field with them and also prepping for the next year.”

Watson completed all 14 of his passes in the second half on Sunday as the Browns mounted a comeback win over their AFC-North-rival Ravens, and is still coming to grips with the fact that his season is now over.

“I’m still in disbelief,” Watson said. “I’m still just trying to process all the information that I’ve been getting since last night. It’s tough. I felt like we were turning a corner to really make a run, and I still believe we still will with the guys in this locker room.

“I just wanted to be physically a part of it on the field with those guys and six weeks I was down and try to come back and two weeks later I’m back out again. So yeah, it’s tough to try to wrap everything around my head right now.”

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski announced Wednesday that rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson will be the starting quarterback against the Steelers.

For his part, Watson downplayed the heroics of finishing last week’s game with a broken bone in his shoulder and a high ankle sprain, and vowed to continue supporting the team from the sidelines.

“I just want to win, that’s all I was focused on was just winning,” he said.

“I didn’t care how we did it, whatever we need to do to turn that game around and to win and leave everything out there on the field, and that’s what I was focused on. It was cool, but the ultimate goal is that Super Bowl, so I won’t have that opportunity, but my teammates got the opportunity and I pray and know that they’ll do whatever they can to get that ultimate goal.

“And I’m going to be right there supporting ‘em and boosting ‘em up, hyping ‘em up. So yeah, the win was awesome, but the ultimate goal was to try to go all the way.”
