After leaving yesterday’s “Thursday Night Football” outing prematurely, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was declared out for the season due to a right wrist injury.
The setback marked an injury-plagued season for the high-profile quarterback and No. 1 overall draft pick in 2020.
Burrow, 26, was seen — in footage that’s circulated on social media — coming off the team bus before the game with something on his right arm or hand.
The signal-caller was not listed on the Bengals’ injury report coming into the game, which the NFL is now looking into.
The quarterback said this had nothing to do with the subsequent injury he had during the Thursday loss to the Ravens.
“This is a completely different thing,” Burrow said upon being questioned about the brace. “It’s not uncommon for guys to wear compression sleeves on the plane because when you go up to that altitude, things can swell up. This is a completely new injury. In football, you have a lot of bumps and bruises. This is a completely new injury.”
Following an MRI on Friday, Burrow was revealed to have a torn ligament in his throwing wrist, which will sideline him for the remainder of 2023.
Burrow was notably seen attempting to throw a pass on the Bengals sideline and immediately succumbed to visibly obvious discomfort.
Taylor maintained that whatever Burrow was wearing before the game was unrelated to Thursday’s injury.
“I don’t know, totally unrelated to what this was,” Taylor insisted. “Lot of guys wear different compression things on the plane, but again, that’s something he did. I don’t know exactly what it was, but totally unrelated to what this was.”
Burrow said, after the game, he knew the injury appeared serious when he “felt a pop” while throwing a touchdown pass to running back Joe Mixon.
“After the game, I kind of had a feeling,” Burrow told reporters.
“It’s tough,” Burrow told reporters Friday afternoon. “You work so hard for seasons and moments like these. Whenever you get hurt and it ends early, it’s tough to handle. That’s a part of the game.”
The crucial loss now puts the Bengals at 5-5 on the season, while the victorious Ravens — who won 34-20 — continue to build their lead in the AFC North, improving to 8-3.
The Bengals are currently in last place in the competitive division and will now turn to backup Jake Browning to start for the team going forward.
Browning has completed 8 of 15 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown this season.
