At 4-7, the Jets know they can’t afford another loss.
“It feels like we have to win out. That’s the mindset,” wide receiver Garrett Wilson said. “I feel like that’s always the mindset, but it’s even more amplified when you’re all of a sudden 4-7. It’s been a bad stretch for us. We want to win so that we can get this bad taste of losing out of our mouth in the first place. Once you win one, who knows what will happen? The reality of it is that we’re in a tough spot, and we’ve got to dig ourselves out. That’s the goal.”
The Jets have six games left and no margin for error.
Aaron Rodgers is talking about returning, but only if the team is in playoff contention.
To get there, they need to start with a win over the Falcons (5-6) on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
The Jets have lost their past four games, and their offense has been beyond awful.
They need to find answers if they want to keep their season alive.
“I feel like the playoffs are always from Week 1 all the way through,” coach Robert Saleh said. “You can say it is almost sudden death, I guess, but you always have to have the mindset to play every game like a championship game and train yourself to operate that way. If you are waiting to ratchet, to turn it up when it becomes life or death you can say, it is too late. We have got to continue the same approach with regards to mindset and training ourselves to approach every moment like a championship moment.
“Our backs are up against a wall, and we have to continue swinging.”
Tim Boyle will make his second start at quarterback after coming up short last week against the Dolphins.
The Jets have scored 10 offensive touchdowns in 11 games this season and have not scored two offensive touchdowns in a game since Oct. 1 against the Chiefs, the only time they have done it this season.
Rodgers returned to practice this week, a tease of what could come down the stretch if the Jets are able to stay in the hunt.
A loss to the Falcons and it might be “wait till next year” for Rodgers.
