Someone at ESPN doesn’t know what a chicken cutlet should look like.
During the Giants’ 24-22 win over the Packers on Monday night, ESPN aired a graphic that portrayed quarterback Tommy DeVito sitting at his parents’ home in New Jersey with a plate of chicken cutlets in front of him.
The media giant took some heat on social media for their depiction of the classic Italian dish, and some fans were disgusted.
“The graphic ESPN used for chicken cutlets in the Giants game just set back Italians 20 years,” one X user wrote.
“It looks like rotten firewood,” someone wrote with a zoomed-in shot of the cutlets.
Another X user said, “ESPN’s cutlets looking like rocks.”
The real chicken cutlets were in the parking lot of MetLife stadium on Monday, where DeVito’s family had an Italian feast at their tailgate.
Over 300 people showed up to the DeVito family tailgate, where his parents, Alexandra and Tom, and his brother Max, provided chicken cutlet sandwiches.
Former Giants quarterback Eli Manning even joked that DeVito’s agent was carrying “some cutlets for later” in his mysterious blue bag while on the sidelines during ESPN’s “ManningCast” on “Monday Night Football.”
DeVito, who signed with the Giants as an undrafted rookie free agent in April, earned the nickname “Tommy Cutlets” after he spoke publicly about living at home with his Italian family in Cedar Grove, where “chicken cutlets are waiting for me when I get there.”
The 25-year-old quarterback also said, “My mom still makes my bed. Everything is handled for me.”
DeVito’s Italian hand gesture is a hit with fans, who brought large hand signs to Monday’s game.
Giants running back Saquon Barkley was on board with the “Tommy Cutlets” craze during a win over the Patriots on Nov. 26.
“Tommy Cutlets, ya dig?” Barkley yelled on the sidelines at the time.
DeVito has become an unexpected hero in the Meadowlands after leading the Giants to three straight wins as they fight to keep their NFC wild-card hopes alive.
DeVito has made four starts due to injuries to Daniel Jones (ACL) and Tyrod Taylor (ribs), who was activated from injured reserve last week.
