The Rangers continue to add unique new pieces to their coaching staff.
Christian Hmura will join the team as a skills and performance development coach, according to a source.
The 36-year-old replaces Mark Ciaccio on the NHL staff and is expected to be a regular presence around the club.
Ciaccio, who wanted a role change, will remain within the organization as a prospect development skills coach.
He will now strictly work with prospects and serve under Jed Ortmeyer, the Rangers’ Director of Player Development.
Hmura was most recently serving as the head coach and hockey director of the Triple-A Chicago Mission.
Prior to his time with the youth hockey organization, for which he coached players 13, 14 and 15 years old, Hmura was a scout for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Moncton Wildcats during the 2014-15 season.
Hmura also owns his own development program, Hmura Hockey Development, which was founded on his core principle that “being a well versed skater creates the time and space to utilize the skills that you practice day in and day out,” per his website.
A former forward out of Illinois, Hmura joins a Rangers coaching staff that features head coach Peter Laviolette, as well as assistants Phil Housley, Michael Peca and Dan Muse.
