The Mets have added relief pitcher Chad Smith on a minor league contract, according to multiple reports.
The deal also includes an invitation to major league spring training, SNY’s Joe DeMayo reported.
The right-hander pitched in 10 games last season for the Athletics, tallying a 6.59 ERA with nine strikeouts, yielding 15 hits and seven walks across 13 2/3 innings.
He had a 1.61 WHIP.
The 28-year-old was selected as an 11th-round pick by the Marlins in the 2016 MLB Draft out of the University of Mississippi before he was traded to the Rockies in August 2020.
Smith — whose heater sits at around 95 mph, per Baseball Savant — made his MLB debut with Colorado in May 2022, finishing that year with a 7.50 ERA and 23 punchouts, giving up 15 walks in 18 innings.
Across seven years in the minors, he had a 4.49 ERA with 285 strikeouts in 252 1/3 innings.
