Daft Punk just performed at Burning Man… or did they?

Daft Punk just performed at the Trash Fence at Burning Man, except it wasn’t them.

A ‘fake’ Daft Punk performance had whipped Burning Man crowds into a frenzy this year, with strong rumours that the duo were actually going to appear. When they all flocked to the Trash Fence area to witness the duo, they were greeted by Daft Funk – a tribute act to the legends.

Posting to Instagram, the Robot Heart foundation commented on the situation:

” Some of you made the pilgrimage, some of you heard the whispers, some of you laughed and some of you cursed us under your breath when you realized it was not actually Daft Punk. It was instead a tongue in cheek turn, a prank on the overhyped, on the arms race the Burn has become.

Friday night was a performance by a cover band Daft Funk, two musicians and long time Daft Punk fans, who stepped up with heart, humor, with an undeniable love and reverence for the duo’s legacy.

A good-natured ‘prank’ that also wanted to pay tribute to their legacy, this is undoubtedly one of the most talked about moments of this years Burn. Maybe one day the duo will make a return, and we’ll see the pair actually turn up to Burning Man?
