Omnisphere 3 set to launch after 10 years in the making

After 10 years in the making, Spectrasonics has announced the launch of Omnisphere 3. The virtual instrument arrives with thousands of new sounds, 18 new libraries, a redesigned browser, and several new features. The curated libraries and updated browser improve workflow efficiency.

In terms of new features, Omnisphere’s adaptive global controls allow tweaks to important sound controls like Tone, Ambience and Filter. The new Patch Mutation button automatically creates and saves different variations of a patch. It also introduces 36 new filter types, Quadzone modulation, over 600 editable wavetables (including an EDM set), new portamento curves with Auto-Bend and CS-80 Glissando and also supports full MPE for Polyphonic Expression.

The list doesn’t stop here, as Spectrasonics has added 35 FX units, taking the total number of units to 93. These include emulations of the Roland Dimension-D, Teletronix’s LA series compressors and Universal Audio 1176 Limiter, among others. You can now use these units directly in any DAW as separate FX plugins. The arpeggiator features a 32-step variable programmer and can run up to eight arpeggiators simultaneously. Outside the software, Omnisphere adds hardware integration with over 300 new profiles, ensuring compatibility with most major MIDI controllers and synths.

Despite the upgrades, Omnisphere 3 uses the same storage space as its predecessor and remains backward compatible. You’ll need at least 8 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, and a 2.4 GHz or faster processor, though 16 GB of RAM is recommended. Omnisphere 3 will be available for Windows and macOS from October 21, priced at $499, with an upgrade option for existing users at $199.
