Andrew Thomas may return for Giants, Saquon Barkley day-to-day

Left tackle Andrew Thomas hopes to return for the Giants’ lineup on Monday night against the Seahawks, but running back Saquon Barkley remains day-to-day with the high-ankle sprain that kept him out of last Thursday’s road loss to the 49ers.

Thomas said that he believes there’s a “good” chance he will be able to suit up after missing two games with an ankle injury.

“I am [optimistic]. We haven’t practiced yet, so we’ll see once I get out there,” Thomas said Tuesday at the Giants practice facility. “I didn’t do much in the walk-throughs last week, so I really haven’t got to block anybody. So we’ll see once we practice [beginning Thursday].

“[The Niners game] was a short week and they said there was an opportunity I could make it worse, so we decided to just sit it out and give it time to heal.”

With the Giants holding what he described as a “jog-through” on Tuesday, head coach Brian Daboll said he didn’t expect Barkley “to do much” on Tuesday, with a scheduled team day off slated for Wednesday.

“He’s really now, I’d say, in the day-to-day category,” Daboll said. “Feels a lot better today, but we’ll kind of take that all the way throughout the week and see how he improves.”

The Giants will practice Thursday, Friday and Saturday ahead of Monday’s game at MetLife Stadium.

Barkley has said in the past that he believes he returned too soon from previous ankle issues, and Daboll was asked if that will be a factor in the running back’s decision to return.

“To me, I think every injury is different, even though it’s the same body part,” Daboll said. “Let him rehab, let him get with the trainers, get a feel for where he’s at.

“Let’s talk to the trainers and see where they are with his injury and then make the decision when it comes time to make the decision. But he’s getting better. We’ll see how it goes.”

Linebacker Azeez Ojulari also has been improving after missing the past two games with a hamstring injury.

“I’ll give you an update on Thursday, but we’re making progress with everybody who has been on that report or missed [games],” Daboll said.

Cornerback Deonte Banks (bruised arm) said he expects to play against the Seahawks.
