It seems that Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has a fan in LSU’s Angel Reese.
The women’s basketball star appeared to quote Morant on X following his first game back from a 25-game suspension on Tuesday.
Video captured after the game showed Morant running off the court and yelling “I kept receipts too” as he headed to the Memphis locker room at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans after scoring 34 points — including the game-winning shot at the buzzer — in his first game back for Memphis.
About 20 minutes after the video of his exaltation was shared, Reese wrote on her X account: “I keep receipts too,” seemingly referencing Morant’s comments.
It is not entirely clear why or what led to Reese to post the phrase on her account on the social media app, though the two have crossed paths before, including earlier this year when they appeared in a TikTok laughing and dancing to YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s song, “Fresh Prince of Utah.”
Morant’s first game back following suspension for brandishing a firearm on an Instagram Live in May occurred roughly an hour away from LSU’s Baton Rouge campus.
The point guard got a mix of jeers and cheers as he was introduced before the game and was booed heavily by the home Pelicans fans he touched the ball for the first time on Tuesday night.
As he drove the basket and was fouled, he faced even more boos from the home crowd.
After the effort that included eight assists and six rebounds, the Grizzlies were happy to get their star back in the lineup for the first time since last year’s playoffs.
“My one expectation was for him to have fun,” head coach Taylor Jenkins said after the game, per the Associated Press. “That’s how you want Ja to play, is play fast and free with the dynamic abilities.”
“He was able to do whatever he wanted,” Pelicans forward Zion Williamson added, per the AP. “Ja was able to get downhill a lot. Him doing that opened up the game for the rest of them.”
