Pat McAfee is no stranger to bold predictions — and this one certainly falls along those lines.
When McAfee joined Amazon Prime’s “Thursday Night Football” booth during a preseason game between Philadelphia and Indianapolis, he dropped a bold message about Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson.
“You guys have called a great half, it’s been a blast, I’ve only been able to see about 75 percent of the game from the corner of the booth, but it’s an honor to watch you guys work,” McAfee said to Kirk Herbstreit and Al Michaels before adding one last note.
“Anthony Richardson’s gonna lead us to a Super Bowl.”
McAfee, a longtime fan and former punter for the team, later confirmed his prediction on Twitter, writing: “I said what I said.”
Richardson, selected by the Colts with the No. 4 pick in this year’s draft out of Florida, has already made a good impression on Indianapolis fans with his skills on the field and confident attitude.
In the Colts’ 27-13 win over the Eagles on Thursday, the 21-year-old quarterback flapped his arms after a 52-yard touchdown drive, mocking Philadelphia’s trademark celebration.
“I was just having fun,” he said. “I hope nobody takes it the wrong way.”
Richardson completed 6 of 17 passes on the day for 78 yards and also rushed for 38 yards.
The dual-threat quarterback, who was named the Week 1 starter earlier this month, said he was “shocked” to learn about the decision.
“You work for it [but] you didn’t know when the timeline was going to be,” Richardson said.
“I was just looking forward to Week 1 and just being ready for the opportunity and getting thrown in the fire hopefully. But then he told me, and I’m like, ‘Wow, it really happened.’”
The Colts kick off their season against the Jaguars on Sunday, Sept. 10, at their home field, Lucas Oil Stadium.
