Bears’ hellacious week now includes $100K Soldier Field heist

It won’t be a week to remember for the Bears.

The latest news comes courtesy ABC7 in Chicago, which is reporting someone broke into a parking structure at Soldier Field and stole more than $100,000 worth of yard equipment, including lawn mowers and utility terrain vehicles.

The break-in happened sometime overnight Wednesday and included thieves tearing down a security fence to drive out the stolen equipment.

Also on Wednesday, defensive coordinator Alan Williams resigned, igniting rumors that the FBI raided Soldier Field and his home.

That was the same day quarterback Justin Fields raised eyebrows over comments made about his “robotic” play, appearing to suggest a disconnect with personnel and coaches.

“Of course, things that I didn’t like, I felt like I wasn’t necessarily playing my game. I felt like I was kind of robotic and not playing like myself,” Fields said.

“My goal this week is just to say ‘Eff it’ and play football how I know how to play football. That includes thinking less and just going out there and playing off of instincts, rather than just so much info and data in my head and just going out there and playing football.”

He was then asked what he felt is causing him to overthink.

“Could be coaching, I think, but at the end of the day they’re doing their job when they’re giving me what to look at, but at the end of the day I can’t be thinking about that when the game comes,” Field said.

“I prepare myself throughout the week, but then when the game comes it’s time to play free at that point. It’s just thinking less and playing more.”

Fields tried to walk back his comments later in the day.

“When you take my quote out of context, and when you just say that, if you paint the picture on the inside out, y’all are trying to split us up at the seams,” he told reporters. “I’m not blaming anything on the coaches. I’m never gonna blame anything on the coaches, I’m never gonna blame anything on my teammates.”

So plenty of off-the-field drama for an 0-2 team which is getting ready to visit the Super Bowl champion Chiefs on Sunday.

What could possibly go wrong?
