Beatport Sells Loopmasters and Loopcloud Back to Original Founder and Jamahook

Originally acquired by Beatport in 2020, Loopmasters and Loopcloud have now been reacquired by their original founder Matt Pelling in partnership with Jamahook, a Zurich-based music software developer. Plugin Boutique, which was also part of the 2020 acquisition, will continue to operate under the Beatport Group.

With technology evolving rapidly and AI-driven sample platforms becoming increasingly prevalent, many had anticipated major changes for Loopmasters and Loopcloud. Founded by Matt Pelling in 2003, Loopmasters quickly grew into a leading sample provider for producers worldwide. Building on its success, the team went on to establish Plugin Boutiqueand Loopcloud, both of which were later acquired by Beatport in 2020 for an undisclosed amount.

Speaking about reacquiring the two platforms, Matt Pelling, who has been serving as the CEO of Rhodes Music Group, stated:

“Since the sale in 2020, I’ve had the time and space to start a family and work on lots of interesting projects, but I always missed what I had built with Loopmasters and Loopcloud. I’ve been in the sampling industry since 1996, so I’ve seen its growth from CD-ROMs through digital distribution and subscription services.

Today’s technological landscape has only inspired me more. Working on multiple projects, I’ve been able to contrast making handcrafted musical instruments at Rhodes with modern AI-assisted software. It turns out there’s a commonality when it comes to creating music tools that stand the test of time. Going back to Loopmasters and Loopcloud, and keeping a small team of dedicated people, I’m looking forward to writing the next chapter while keeping everything that made these tools great in the first place.”

Robb McDaniels, CEO of Beatport, commented in a press release:

While it was hard to let go of the amazing Loopmasters business and its incredible employees, the fact that Matt Pelling and team are providing the new home with lots of growth potential seems a fitting result. I am 100% confident that Matt will continue to lead the business into exciting new, profitable areas for many years to come, and we wish him the best of luck.

Jamahook, Pelling’s new partner in this venture, is an AI-powered sound assistant designed to help musicians discover and integrate loops and samples seamlessly into their projects. It will be interesting to see how the new owners steer the future of Loopmasters and Loopcloud, particularly whether they can once again rival Splice, the dominant player in the sampling landscape.
