An up and coming Australian model who had worked across the world has died at just 28, her family has announced.
Sian Scale, who was based in Melbourne but had worked in London, New York and Paris, passed away this week, her family announced.
The 28-year-old passed away at the Peter McCallum Center close to Melbourne’s central business district.
She had been struck down by a rare and incurable cancer, the Herald Sun reported.
Marc Jacobs, Burberry and Chanel were some of the fashion houses Scale had worked with.
She was signed to prominent Australian modeling agency Chadwick.
“She was determined and strong and had such grace in navigating the most difficult year of her life with such acceptance, optimism and vulnerability,” her family said in a statement.
They added that Scale has never companied or asked “why me” about her ordeal.
“Sian was very generous, loving, kind, fun, adventurous and modest”.
Scale grew up in Mansfield, around 124 miles northeast of Melbourne.
Her family said she was at ease on the farm and in the fashion world and then recalled once taking her straight from a camping trip to the Melbourne Fashion Festival.
“She was always willing to try something new and did things on her own terms,” the family wrote.
“Quickly making a name for herself as likeable and easygoing, Sian’s generous spirit and natural beauty saw her quickly snapped up as a model to watch in her home country.”
‘Miss her more than words can express’
Scale’s global modeling career has also seen her appear on Vogue and Vanity Fair magazines.
“It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of our beautiful model Sian Scale,” modeling agency Chadwick said in as statement.
“Sian was a bright and unique light in our world, who unapologetically marched to her own beat.
“We will all miss her more than words can express, and her incredible work in pictures will immortalize her forever.”
Scale said she wished for people to give blood in her honor.
“If anyone wants to do anything in memory of me, it is to give blood – it is the gift of life,” she said.
