Bills’ Josh Allen rips critics of Stefon Diggs after sideline meltdown

Josh Allen had a message for those taking issue with Stefon Diggs’ show of emotion during Sunday’s 25-20 loss to the Jaguars.

Diggs was caught on camera slamming a tablet while on the Bills’ sideline with 5:40 left in the third quarter of their game in London, and a clip of the incident quickly went viral, with some football fans beginning to speculate over who or what Diggs could have been so upset about.

But on Wednesday, Allen said that the receiver was simply upset with himself “for running the wrong release on a route.”

“He’s a competitor, he’s a fiery competitor. I’m tired of hearing all this nonsense from people,” Allen told reporters. “There’s a lot of guys in the league that have that same fire that don’t get talked about. He’s a lot of our juice on the sideline, making sure the offense is staying up and as energized as possible and we feed off of that.”

Diggs said Sunday that the game lacked a sense of urgency after the Bills put up their second-lowest scoring effort this season.

Sunday wasn’t the first time that Diggs’ passion has notably been caught on camera, as last year he was seen frustrated during a playoff loss to the Bengals.

While there was naturally chatter on the outside of the organization about the clip of Diggs, players inside the Bills locker room appreciated the passion that comes with the talented wideout.

“He’s a captain for a reason,” Allen said. “When you look at the sidelines of guys that are talking and making sure everybody’s ready to go, for better or worse, he’s up in guys’ faces and he’s making sure we have as much juice as we need — and he supplies that to our offense, especially in times we need it.

“He doesn’t get the burn he deserves there. Frankly, it kind of ticks me off when people want to say stuff about him, but we’ll keep that all internal here.”

The Bills sit 3-2 through the first five weeks of the season and have a Sunday night showdown with the reeling 1-4 Giants coming up this weekend.
