The Cardinals were quite busy on Sunday afternoon, dealing away right-handed reliever Jordan Hicks to the Toronto Blue Jays and sending left-handed starter Jordan Montgomery to the Texas Rangers, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed.
The Cards, who have begun their selloff, will get back righties Sem Robberse and Adam Kloffenstein in the deal with Toronto, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Right-handed reliever Chris Stratton will also go to Texas as part of that deal and St. Louis will receive infielder Thomas Saggese, righty Tekoah Roby and lefty John King, according to Passan.
The Cardinals’ decision to sell near the MLB trade deadline is no surprise considering where they are in the standings.
St. Louis is 11 games back of a spot in the NL Wild Card and is 40-60 through 100 games.
More moves are likely to come from St. Louis as Tuesday’s 6 p.m. deadline rapidly approaches.
Hicks is a pending free agent this offseason and would help the Blue Jays bullpen that just lost All-Star closer Jordan Romano to the 15-day injured list.
Hicks has eight saves for the Cardinals this season, while posting a 3.67 ERA in 41⅔ innings pitched.
Hicks and St. Louis had discussed a contract extension in the days leading up to the deadline, but talks stalled out according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The Rangers added more depth to their rotation a day after acquiring Max Scherzer from the Mets by trading for Montgomery.
Texas had suffered some setbacks to their pitching staff, losing Jacob deGrom and Jake Odorizzi for the season.
Montgomery, a former Yankees starter who was traded last season at the deadline for Harrison Bader, had a 3.42 ERA over 121 innings in his first full season with the Cardinals.
He also registered 102 strikeouts and 35 walks in that span.
Stratton had 42 appearances for the Cardinals this season, the righty has a 4.36 ERA and 59 strikeouts.
