The Sanders family will likely be back at Colorado next season.
It appears that Shedeur Sanders and his brother Shilo will both return for another season with the Buffaloes.
Both are eligible for the 2024 NFL Draft, but Deion Sanders, the pair’s dad and head coach at Colorado, indicated that they were staying for another season.
And from the sounds of it, the Sanders brothers would turn pro together in 2025.
“It’s up to us,” Deion said in an interview with USA Today. “We do things as a family, and my sons respect the heck out of me and my decision-making and getting them to where they desire to go. … It’s always been our dream that they’re going into the draft together, and we didn’t know how that would manifest itself with (the COVID-19 pandemic) and everything. It just so happened properly that they’re going in the same draft at the conclusion of next season.”
There was certainly some thought that Shedeur could enter this year’s draft and capitalize on the notoriety he had during the 2023 season, and experts predicted that he could be the third-best QB in the draft.
Shedeur finished the season with 3,230 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and three interceptions.
He added four rushing touchdowns to his name as well, all while under constant pressure thanks to an offensive line that struggled to protect him.
Shedeur did deal with injuries throughout the season because of the lack of protection and suffered a fracture in his back at the end of the campaign.
He is expected to be healed by the spring.
The injuries to Shedeur have encouraged Deion to look at some “older quarterbacks” in the transfer portal as backups should Shedeur get hurt next season.
“So if something were to happen to Shedeur, they could step right in and make it happen,” Deion said. “That’s what we’re looking for. We’ve already mapped out what we need in each position way before the season concluded. So we already knew and know what we’re looking for. So we’re right on pace to go find what we’re looking for, and we know where it is.”
Shilo is coming off a solid season of his own in which he had 54 tackles, four forced fumbles, one interception and one pass breakup at safety.
All eyes will be on the Buffaloes, who finished 4-8 this year, next season as Deion continues to put his stamp on the program in his second season at the helm.
