Dodgers trade for Tyler Glasnow as Shohei Ohtani era takes shape

Hours after Shohei Ohtani was introduced as a member of the Dodgers on Thursday, Los Angeles went out and made another splash.

The Dodgers acquired right-hander Tyler Glasnow and outfielder Manuel Margot from the Rays in exchange for righty Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny Deluca, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

The deal is contingent on Glasnow signing an extension with the Dodgers.

Sources told The Post’s Jon Heyman that the trade will go through and Glasnow will be a member of LA’s National League ballclub.

The addition is the latest boost to the Dodgers roster this offseason that has shown Los Angeles’ commitment to winning a title this upcoming season.

Ohtani was the first domino to fall and the Dodgers have been rumored to be in on a number of potential additions and it had come out this week that they had been trying to work out a deal with Tampa Bay.

Glasnow was one of the biggest prizes on the trade market and it gave the Dodgers one of baseball’s most dominant pitchers.

The starter went 10-7 with a 3.53 ERA and struck out 162 batters while pitching a career-high 120 innings.

The trade again shows how important Ohtani’s willingness to defer 97 percent of his $700 million contract to the end of his deal is for the Dodgers to build a team around the superstar.

Glasnow is due $25 million this season and his contract extension could exceed nine figures, according to ESPN.

The pitcher has dealt with injuries over the course of his career, including a Tommy John Surgery in 2021 and eventually returned to pitch twice in 2022.

Additionally, the Dodgers picked up a 29-year-old outfielder that comes highly regarded for his defensive work.

Margot joins an outfield that already includes James Outman, Chris Taylor and Jason Heyward.
