When it comes to music preferences, Travis Kelce‘s mom has a favorite era.
While speaking about her latest partnership with KIND, Donna Kelce revealed to PEOPLE exclusively whether she considered herself a Swiftie prior to her son’s rumored romance with the 12x-Grammy Award winner.
“I would say not,” Donna says, when asked if she would use the label that mega fans of Swift call themselves. “My era was Earth, Wind and Fire, Chaka Khan, things like that. That’s more my music.”
“But obviously, talent is talent,” the mom of the Kanas City Chiefs tight end was sure to make clear.
Although Donna favors music from a different generation, she does have a favorite song by Swift. “I think probably ‘Shake It Off,’ ” NFL star’s mom previously revealed on the Got It From My Momma podcast. “We’re getting a lot of that lately, about haters,” she said with a laugh.
Donna and Swift have gotten lots of time to get to know each other the last two weeks as they’ve cheered on Travis at his games. On Sunday at MetLife Stadium for the matchup between the Chiefs and New York Jets, Donna found herself alongside some of Swift’s longtime friends. Sophie Turner, Blake Lively, Robyn Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Sabrina Carpenter and Antoni Porowski joined them in the suite.
When chatting with PEOPLE, Donna opened up about the celebrity of it all and whether she got starstruck in that setting. “I think with anybody, everyone is fans of certain people,” she says. “I think right now I’m just in an alternate universe and I’m just allowed to be in it. That’s all I can tell you.”
A mom at the core, Donna’s primary focus and attention at her son’s game is that “everybody’s healthy and they’re doing what they need to do in order to make the game a good one.” She explains, “When I go to a game, I’m basically focusing on what’s happening on the field, not what’s going on around me or what’s happening in the suite.”
“So I’m just in the zone,” she continues. “I’m a fan of football. That’s foremost.”
And she’s a committed fan. With Travis on the Chiefs and her older son Jason on the Philadelphia Eagles, Donna makes an effort to show up to both of her kids’ games on the same day — a feat she’s “only been able to do it twice” in “13 years,” including the “awesome” experience on Sunday night.
Donna said the first time she tried to hit both of her sons’ games, she “missed half of both” because she had to leave at halftime with one in Tampa and the other in Kansas City.
“But this last time was awesome because MetLife Stadium is only an hour and a half away from where they live in Philadelphia, to Jason particularly… so it worked out,” the proud mother of two tells PEOPLE.
As for whether she has plans to cheer on both the Chiefs and the Eagles in the same day? “I don’t think there’s any other chance,” says Donna, beyond the day the brother will face each other in November and she’ll have split rooting interests. “In the beginning of the season I’ll take a look at their schedules and figure out when they’re playing at home and then I decide I’m going to do eight each.”
“Sometimes it works, sometimes it’s just like logistically impossible,” she adds.
The busy schedules and constant traveling might sound exhausting, but Donna is always prepared — which in part is the reason for her latest partnership with KIND, a collaboration that she says “seemed natural.”
“I always took them to every game,” Donna tells PEOPLE the bars, prior to launching her own Donna’s Purse Snacks, Dark Chocolate Vanilla Cashew Dipped Clusters — a limited-edition design that sold out in 24 hours (though KIND said more could drop this afternoon on their Instagram).
“I still do have a big Ziploc bag and I keep it in my carry-on, and it’s just sometimes you just need a little energy… you haven’t been able to eat all day, you’re jumping from plane to plane,” she explains. “They always know that I’ve got that in my back pocket.”
