All was not well in the City of Brotherly Love during the Eagles’ roaring 10-1 start.
The Eagles did mount the best record in the NFL through their first 11 games of the season, but they’ve since lost three straight, including a “Monday Night Football” blunder to the Seahawks in which they allowed backup Drew Lock to lead a late Seattle comeback.
Still, the Eagles — now 10-4 — are in jeopardy of not winning the NFC East after going to the Super Bowl last year, and to some, that is unsurprising, according to a new report from the Philadelphia Inquirer.
“The most miserable 10-1 team,” one source told the outlet before the Eagles’ Monday loss. “Imagine now.”
Even though the Eagles have already clinched a playoff spot, their play has been a far cry from what it was earlier in the season.
But even before then, the Eagles were questioned by some by the nature of their early wins, often escaping defeat in the waning moments, winning in underwhelming fashion.
Seven of the Eagles’ 10 wins have come by one score or less, and despite being 10-4, they’re just 7-5-2 against the spread.
However, the start of their skid — which included a thumping in Week 14 by the Cowboys — began in earnest with a loss to the 49ers, who throttled the Eagles, 42-19, on Dec. 3.
And now, amid their struggles, they put Matt Patricia in charge of the defense, demoting Sean Desai.
Despite the struggles and three-game losing streak, the Eagles could run the table and finish 13-4 before the playoffs, still giving them a chance at winning the NFC East, especially with Dallas holding a tougher end-of-season schedule.
The Eagles play the Giants twice — first coming this week on Christmas — with a date against the Cardinals in between, while the Cowboys will be in Miami this weekend to see the Dolphins before taking on the Lions and Commanders to close out the year.
