ESPN’s technical difficulties hit at massive WNBA Finals moment

ESPN fixed its technical difficulties just in the nick of time during Wednesday night’s decisive Game 4 of the WNBA Finals.

In the final minute of the fourth quarter, the Aces held the ball and a 70-69 lead over the Liberty, with a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series.

The Aces’ possession was not yielding an open shot, so head coach Becky Hammon called timeout with 20.9 seconds remaining in the game and about three seconds left on the shot clock.

At that moment, ESPN’s broadcast seemed to have a technical glitch, where the same sequence leading into the timeout replayed several times instead of either further analysis during the stoppage in action or cutting to a commercial break.

Fortunately, the telecast got back on the rails right as the Aces were getting ready to inbound the ball coming out of the timeout.

An ESPN spokesperson confirmed to The Post that technical difficulties occurred.

“We had a technical issue during a timeout, and we were able to address it before the teams returned to game action,” the spokesperson said.

The Aces wound up not scoring on the possession, but the Liberty were unable to capitalize as Courtney Vandersloot missed a 3-point attempt to end the game.

“That would have been nice to go play Game 5 and then lay it all out on the table. But you know what, credit to Vegas. They were down and they found a way,” Liberty coach Sandy Brondello told reporters after the loss. “We fought, but it wasn’t our best game today and so it’ll be a hard one to learn from.”

“We just didn’t have it tonight. Vegas really exploited us,” Brondello added.
