Former LSU stars sound off on Angel Reese-Kim Mulkey drama

Some of Angel Reese’s former LSU teammates appear to be jumping into the drama surrounding the star basketball player and Tigers coach Kim Mulkey.

Reese, the hero of last season’s NCAA championship run and the team’s best player, was benched in the second half of a win over Kent State last Tuesday and was not with the team Friday night for a win against Southeastern Louisana.

Mulkey didn’t add much clarity to Reese’s status.

“You want me to explain why? It’s very obvious Angel was not in uniform,” Mulkey told reporters after Friday night’s game. “Angel is a part of this basketball team and we hope to see her sooner than later.”

The benching and absence come after LSU was upset in its opener by No. 20 Colorado and Reese spent time in the offseason being featured in the Sport Illustrated Swimsuit issue and appearing in a music video with Cardi B and Latto.

Reese’s former teammate Alexis Morris had plenty to say about the situation on X about different aspects of the situation, appearing to defend Reese and others for taking NIL opportunities.

“I never ever ever wanted to be at odds, or cared about likes, media, nil none of those things,” Morris wrote on Saturday. “I just wanted to hoop. I come from a different generation of players, we did not have all this when I was in HSNIL is a plus! Media coverage is a plus in my eyes.”

See also refused to bad mouth Mulkey for how she’s handled the situation with Reese.

“You can’t pay me to bash Kim,” Morris wrote on X on Thursday.

She added: “switched up to gang up on me [sic]. now yall fall-in out. don’t ever choose clout over loyalty free game. I showed real love not for marketing politics nothing. but the realist always prevail.”

Fellow former LSU star Jasmin Carson appeared to be staying out of the fray for now.

“y’all better hope I don’t say nothing…because it would be breaking news” Carson wrote on X on Thursday.

Both Carson and Morris were on last year’s national championship team.

It only add to the drama around the situation as Reese’s mother, Angel Reese Webb, and Flau’jae Johnson’s mother, Kia Brooks, seemed to go after each other on Instagram.

“Folks pls do not send me long text msgs with a bunch of grammatical errors it gives me a headache,” Webb wrote.

“How do I know you said what you said if I can’t understand what you’re saying?”

According to Just Women’s Sports, Brooks replied to Webb: “You definitely know about grammar errors when your daughter got a 2.0 or less GPA. … Stop being petty, fake and hateful, and take responsibility for you and your daughter’s actions.”

Mulkey called the benching as a “coach’s decision.”

But OutKick’s Glenn Guilbeau, who has been covering LSU athletics for two decades, reported Reese was benched in hopes of fostering an “attitude adjustment.”
