Giants’ Daniel Jones-Darren Waller connection blossoming

Observations from Monday’s Giants practice:

On target

Daniel Jones completed his first 16 passes in team periods, including three touchdowns to TE Darren Waller.

Yes, many were quick throws to targets breaking open close to the line of scrimmage, but Jones’ accuracy allowed for catch-and-runs.

The Jones-Waller connection continues to thrive in the red zone.

Off target

Jones and Tyrod Taylor both threw interceptions.

S Dane Belton — who is on a takeaway heater dating to the joint practices against the Lions and his interception in the preseason opener — jumped Darius Slayton’s route for a pick-six off of Jones.

Rookie S Gervarrius Owens intercepted a Taylor pass that was tipped by LB Darrian Beavers and became a high-arcing lob.

Caught my eye

Evan Neal was back at right tackle during the installation periods.

He wore a red no-contact jersey. It is a sign that Neal is close to clearing the concussion protocol.

RT Matt Peart filled Neal’s spot during contact drills, as has been the case for a week.

Injury report

OL Devery Hamilton and Tyre Phillips, WR Collin Johnson, RB Gary Brightwell, LB Cam Brown, S Nick McCloud and DL Ryder Anderson did not practice.

DT D.J. Davidson was activated off the physically unable to perform list and practiced for the first time.
