“Jackass” star Steve-O got candid about stumbling into a severe sex addiction after he overcame his drug and alcohol issues.
The 49-year-old opened up about his experience on a recent episode of StyleLikeU and Man Enough’s podcast, What’s Underneath: Masculinity.
The TV personality explained that going 431 days without intercourse after getting professional help, aided him in his recovery for his problems.
He noted that he was so “out of control with drugs and alcohol” during the start of his career, adding that things got so “tremendously dark,” that he began to “act out sexually.”
Steve-O rose to fame with the MTV stunt series “Jackass,” which ran from 2000 to 2001. The cast also appeared in four films.
Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Chris Pontius, and Ryan Dunn also starred on the reality show.
His mother suffering from an aneurysm in 1998 also contributed to his poor mental health.
The “major trauma”‘ felt “like a suffering that shouldn’t exist.”
“I felt very angry at any God that would allow that to happen. Everything was getting tremendously dark. I can’t really describe all the pain ’cause there was so much of it,” he said.
The entertainer explained that his “rock bottom” began when he was filming the comedy film “Jackass Number Two” in 2006.
Steve-O said: “We were taking the biggest risks, we were doing the craziest stuff, and everything just worked. It was like magic.”
Just a two years later, the “Jackass” cast staged an intervention when their friend began to spiral and they put him on an involuntary 72-hour psychiatric hold.
He had been arrested for felony cocaine possession at the time and emailed everyone he knew and told them he was “ready to die.”
However, he has “been clean and sober ever since then.”
But his issues didn’t end there. His alcoholism led to a sex addiction, saying he “developed this pattern where I would meet a woman and become infatuated with her … and pour on the charm.”
“Once she fell for me, then like a light switch, I would lose interest in her. I would just ghost,” he said.
He sighed: “I would feel so terrible about myself after doing that because not only was I not treating them the way I want to be treated, I was actually treating them specifically the way I most feared myself being treated.”
‘It was just like, using people and throwing them away. I knew exactly what a piece of s**t I was. It was an endless cycle of shame,” he confessed.
Now, after staying celibate, Steve-O has found the love of his life, stylist Lux Wright.
They are currently engaged and have been dating since 2016.
“I’m proud of how I live my life, I’m proud of who I’ve become. I’m profoundly grateful to have found meaning in my life.”
