Ye, the artist previously known as Kanye West, has raised more than a few eyebrows after wearing what appears to be a klan-esque black mask during a listening party for his album “Vultures.”
The 46-year-old rapper previewed his upcoming collaborative album with Ty Dollar Sign during Miami’s Art Basel on Monday night at an event labeled as the “Vultures Rave” and took the stage several times donned in an all black ensemble that was topped with a pointy black hood that is eerily reminiscent of the head gear worn by the white supremacist terrorist group.
This isn’t the first time the “Flashing Lights” rapper has taken his fashion cues from the Ku Klux Klan.
As fans may recall, the music video for the 2013 Def Jam Recordings track “Black Skinhead,” written as “BLKK SKKKN HEAD” on YouTube, features a trio of the startling black hoods as the opening visual.
As the video continues, which was directed by Nick Knight, the unholy trinity of hoods are magnified and become the backdrop upon which an AI version of Ye delivers the entirety of the song.
During the concert, West entertained the crowd by playing a few of the tracks from the upcoming project, including some that have already been circulating on X, such as “Everybody” which features a sample from the Backstreet Boys and “New Body” with Nicki Minaj.”
West’s eldest daughter North, whom he shares with ex-wife Kim Kardashian, later joined him onstage to perform a verse on a track from the album in front of a star studded hip-hop crowd which included many of the album’s collaborators such as Offset, Kodak Black, Chris Brown, Playboi Carti, Lil Durk and Freddie Gibbs.
After the performance, fans immediately took to social media to blast the rapper’s choice of garb.
“Kanye wearing a KKK hood and Black people are sitting idly by. F—k him and his music bro,” one user wrote.
“This isn’t the first time of kanye doing a reference about the kkk, why are y’all shocked,” another quipped.
“Just a remark that Kanye West is a[n] anti semite. He hates the Jews and wants them dead. He abuses women. He is a disgusting human being,” a third person remarked.
West’s interesting choice of head gear comes as the rapper has been recently slammed for his offensive, racist and anti-Semitic remarks.
In October the rapper also made headlines when a bombshell report from the New York Times alleged that his nearly 10-year partnership with Adidas ended because the “Good Life” star had a troubling fixation on Hitler and Jews.
According to the feature, West allegedly “told a Jewish Adidas manager to kiss a portrait of Hitler every day,” according to the Times. “And West told Adidas colleagues that he admired Hitler’s command of propaganda.”
He even “drew a swastika” on a sketch allegedly to show his disapproval with a design.
In the recently released “Vultures” track with Ty, Ye seemingly addresses the controversy in the track’s second verse, rhyming “How I’m anti-Semitic? I just fucked a Jewish bitch.”
The new album is set to be released independently, under the super duo’s moniker ¥$, on Friday.
