Kate Middleton branded ‘out of touch’ for wearing $400 shirt and asking Brits for donations

Kate Middleton was branded out-of-touch for wearing an expensive silk shirt while begging Britons to donate to children in need.

Middleton, 41, opened BBC’s Children in Need annual fundraiser wearing a Lisou Betty Rainbow Print Silk Shirt in a pre-recorded clip.

The blouse, which is no longer available to purchase, reportedly went for a cool £315, or roughly $400, according to a fan.

Similar styles range from around $225 to $400.

The future Queen of England – who married into a family estimated to be worth around $30 billion – was asked to open the fundraiser.

“Tonight is all about helping to support, champion, and empower all children to be the very best they can be, which is crucial for their future health and happiness,” the Princess of Wales said in the clip. “It is vital that we nurture early childhood and why the sort of projects supported by Children in Need are so important.”

BBC’s Children in Need is an annual fundraiser that sees a host of celebrities participate to raise money for disadvantaged children across the United Kingdom.

Despite the noble efforts, critics were quick to attack the mother-of-three.

“A billionaire opening the Children In Need show on BBC. Asking society for donations. Tone deaf, @bbc…” one X user wrote in a damning tweet.

Another pointed out the number of homes she and her husband Prince William own, writing on X: “@BBC So Kate Middleton who owns several homes just popped up on #ChildrenInNeed, last year it raised about £20m. Or £354m less than we gave the royals to tart up Buckingham Palace. The hypocrisy is [sickening].”

Writer Dan White wrote: “I know families of disabled children who have gone without meals so their child can eat. So I take offense when Kate Middleton appears on @BBCCiN wearing a £315 blouse.”

“I hope Kate Middleton is going to announce a 10% cut in Royal funding from public taxes. Think how much that would raise for charity!” another one X user wrote.

However, not all was bad as some fans pointed out the princess had previously worn the shirt in 2020.

Middleton has not publicly addressed the backlash. Although, she did post the video of her speech to the couple’s official Instagram.
