Kate Middleton and Prince William’s new family portrait was released just in time for the holidays.
The black and white shot featured the Prince and Princess of Wales alongside kids Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, and was shot by photographer Josh Shinner.
The artist recalled the experience of taking snapshots of the royal family, even unveiling a rough sketch of the photo.
“It was such a pleasure to photograph The Prince and Princess of Wales and their family for the Christmas portrait this year,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Without doubt one of the most relaxed and enjoyable sittings I’ve ever had, and I now have a whole new set of jokes that are right on my level thanks to the children…” Shinner quipped.
However, he’s not ready to dish out those jokes just yet.
“Keeping those to myself I’m afraid! ;)” he hilariously penned in response to a commenter.
In a follow-up post, Shinner shared a sketch drawing of the final product, revealing how he wanted to pose the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with their children.
The photo was released on Saturday and has been the subject of mockery, with some teasing that it looked like a snapshot from a department store catalogue.
“It’s giving JCPenney,” one social media user stated, adding that the family “are just like us.”
“Gotta love all the CHRISTMAS decor in the background,” someone else scoffed, noting the blank background. “Just screams Christmas all over.”
One person chimed in that the Wales were “attempting to look like an everyday family.”
Another user agreed, adding: “They are anything but an everyday family.”
The image was further ridiculed for its apparent Photoshop failures, with eagle-eyed users pointing out that Louis’ finger seemed to be missing. Although, the little one could have just pulled back his finger out of camera shot himself.
The Cambridges recently appeared together at Middleton’s third annual Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey on Friday.
Charlotte kept a close eye on her youngest brother, who mischievously blew out her candle during the service.
Children’s clothing brand Trotters CEO Sophie Mirman gave some insight into the pair’s strong bond.
“It’s so sweet seeing the three of them together and particularly Charlotte being super protective of her little brother,” she gushed to People.
She noted that Louis “looked so grown up” in the London-based brand’s jacket and boots.
“They just looked like normal children, not dressed up, just very simple,” Mirman said of the family’s holiday card. “It was a very different look, it’s very of the moment.”
