Kylian Mbappé has confirmed a long-rumored split from Paris Saint-Germain.
Mbappé, who is reportedly set to soon join Real Madrid, officially announced his decision on X on Friday that he will play his final home game on Sunday against Toulouse.
“I will not extend, and the adventure will come to an end in a few weeks,” Mbappé said in the video post. “I never thought it would be this difficult to announce that, to leave my country.”
The Frenchman has been a force for PSG after signing a $194 million deal in 2017.
Mbappé, who’s also the captain for the French national squad, has 225 goals for PSG and has helped the club earn six league titles in his seven years.
He helped France win the World Cup in 2018, earning the title of best young player and becoming the second teenager to score in a World Cup final.
He then won the Golden Boot and Silver Ball at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, scoring a rare hat trick in the final in a loss to Lionel Messi and Argentina.
Mbappé believes he needs “a new challenge,” and he is expected to join 14-time Champions League winner Real Madrid next season.
In 2021, PSG turned down a $190 million bid from Real Madrid to take the French superstar then.
Mbappé expressed his love for PSG, telling fans he “hasn’t always lived up to the love” they showed him but that he will cherish playing for the club forever.
“I will tell everybody my whole life that I had a chance to play here,” he said in his video. “I do not regret any moment signing with this prestigious club.”
