Limewire has purchased Fyre Festival naming rights

There is no festival more infamous for not occurring than the Fyre Festival. After a failed attempt earlier this year to revive the event, founder Billy McFarland sold the property and naming rights, with Limewire revealed as the new owner.

The story of Billy McFarland and Fyre Festival has been well documented through media coverage and several documentaries. As anxious fans arrived on an island for what was promised to be a luxury festival-going experience, it quickly turned into a nightmare with limited infrastructure in place and no entertainment available. Despite the fallout and eventual prison sentence for McFarland, he remained undeterred and looked to deliver Fyre Festival 2 in 2025, going so far as to sell tickets to the luxury event without naming a lineup for entertainment. This was also cancelled, fortunately before any attendees arrived on site, and McFarland revealed he would sell the naming rights and property via eBay.

While McFarland often claimed that the Fyre Festival brand was worth millions of dollars, it sold for a mere $245,000 at auction. Now, months later, it has been revealed that the popular file-sharing platform Limewire has acquired the property. In the brand’s statement, they promise to maintain the humor and meme culture of the Fyre Festival brand but back it with real execution and technical know-how. Limewire CEO, Julian Zehetmayr, says, “We’re not bringing the festival back-we’re bringing the brand and the meme back to life. This time with real execution.” Those looking to learn more or purchase Fyre Festival merchandise can head over to the official website and sign up for future notifications.
