Malik Cunningham’s Patriots roller coaster ends with Ravens signing

Malik Cunningham will get a break from bouncing between the Patriots roster and practice squad.

The Ravens signed the rookie quarterback off the Patriots practice squad and onto their roster, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday.

Cunningham, 25, had been active for several games for New England this season after an impressive preseason.

The Patriots toyed with packages for Cunningham and tried him as a wide receiver.

The Patriots even signed him to a three-year contract in mid-October, but waived him 10 days later.

The Patriots ultimately added Cunningham back to the practice squad as part of their seemingly never-ending quarterback carousel.

“They just always tell me with the quarterback stuff to always be ready, to keep studying the summer stuff, the weeks that I was activated, just keep studying some of that stuff so if something were to change that those would be the plays that I would run,” Cunningham said last month, according to the Boston Herald.

“So, just keeping up on those plays and other than that, just keep working at my wide receiver stuff.”

Cunningham, as Schefter noted, will now be reunited with Lamar Jackson after the two were teammates at Louisville in 2017.

As the Ravens attempt to make better use of Cunningham than the Patriots, one of his former teammates wished him the best in an interesting manner.

Patriots offensive tackle Trent Brown posted on his Instagram Story, while tagging Cunningham: @malikc_3 go flourish where your talent is respected little bradda.”

That response certainly leaves open room for interpretation considering the unstable state of the Patriots’ quarterback situation this season, as starter Mac Jones has been benched multiple times.

The Ravens (10-3) currently own the top seed in the AFC and visit the AFC South-leading Jaguars this week for “Sunday Night Football” in what could be a potential playoffs preview.
