Marquise Brown used practice as excuse in 126MPH speeding arrest

Marquise “Hollywood” Brown’s excuse for speeding at 126 mph didn’t cut it with a police officer during his arrest on criminal speeding chargers last year.

In body cam footage obtained by TMZ, the Cardinals wide receiver told the Arizona Department of Public Safety officer during his 2022 arrest that he was on his way to football practice while being handcuffed on the side of the road.

Brown was driving at nearly twice the speed limit in a 65 mph zone.

“Sorry,” Brown said last Aug. “I was on my way to football practice, sir.”

Brown’s apology came after the furious officer yelled at the 26-year-old to get out of his white Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 and demanded: “The hell you going that fast for?!”

“You know better than going that fast,” the officer said, to which Brown responded: “Yes, sir. I’m new here, sir.”

Brown reached a deal with prosecutors in February when he agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor count of excessive speed in order to close the case.

A judge ruled in March to waive the $473 fine Brown was initially ordered to pay and gave him credit for time served.

Brown called the arrest “very disappointing.”

“I’m not a guy to get in trouble, so I just put it in my past and make sure I’m always doing the right things at all times,” he said, adding that he will learn from the situation.

When asked to give context about why he was speeding at such a high rate, Brown said he couldn’t get into further details — and added that he was not late for practice.

“I have a lot of kids that look up to me so I want to set the right example at all times,” he said.

Brown was acquired by Arizona in a draft-day trade with the Baltimore Ravens in April 2022.

The Cardinals dealt the 23rd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft in exchange for the 100th overall pick and Brown, who recorded 709 receiving yards and three touchdowns in his first year with Arizona.

The Oklahoma product was selected with the 25th overall pick by the Ravens in the 2019 NFL Draft.
