Mattress Mack loses $7.9 million on Astros World Series bets

Mattress Mack’s $7.9 million wagers on the Astros to win the World Series fell by the wayside Monday night thanks to another offensive onslaught by the Texas Rangers.

Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale could be seen sitting on the edge of his seat early in the first inning of Game 7 of the ALCS as Astros starting pitcher Cristian Javier put his team in a three-run hole while only recording one out.

Texas ultimately eliminated Houston with an 11-4 win.

The furniture tycoon has become the center of attention during this decade-long string of Astros’ success, continuously betting on Houston to win the World Series seemingly every year as part of a promotion for his Gallery Furniture business in Houston.

If the Astros do win the World Series, Mack uses the money as promotional funds by giving his loyal customers free product as a way to hedge his bet but also give back to the community.

Last year, Mack won a scintillating $75 million when the Astros beat the Phillies in the World Series.

This year, Mack had at least $7.9 million in wagers on the Astros to win the World Series but was very cryptic about how much he had on the line, hinting he had likely wagered more on Houston.

Betting on Baseball?

“Deep secret,” Mack said when asked how much he stood to win and how much he bet in 2023.

These are the reported bets that Mack had and lost on the Astros to win the World Series.

  • Spring training: $1.9 million at +600 to win $11.4 million at Caesars Sportsbook
  • Sept. 15: $2 million at +600 to win $12 million at DraftKings
  • Sept. 27: $1 million at +1100 to win $11 million at Caesars Sportsbook
  • Pre-ALDS: $2 million at +450 to win $9 million (Book unknown)
  • Astros down 2-0 in ALCS: $1 million at +750 to win $7.5 million (FanDuel Sportsbook)

He could have won more than $50 million on those wagers.

But that was for naught as Houston couldn’t complete the comeback from a 2-0 series deficit, losing at home to the Rangers in Game 7 even with Max Scherzer pitching just two-plus innings.

Mack has had many big-time losses in his sports betting career, including $9.9 million in bad bets on the 2022 Super Bowl.

He lost $2.6 million on the Kentucky Derby last year, while also losing $1 million on the Titans to win the AFC championship in 2021.
