Mets’ Tylor Megill reaches impressive season durability mark

PHILADELPHIA — Tylor Megill is proud of the fact he hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last seven starts for the Mets, but in the larger picture there’s another number that resonates even more.

The right-hander made his 30th start of the season Friday night (six of them came for Triple-A Syracuse), a benchmark Megill aimed to reach when the year began.

“That’s big time,” Megill said after the Mets’ 5-4, 10-inning loss to the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. “A full season healthy, make every start … a shout-out to the training staff for getting me right.”

Megill missed most of last season with a shoulder strain.

On Friday he took a shutout into the sixth inning, but allowed a two-out, three-run homer to J.T. Realmuto that gave the Phillies a 3-2 lead.

Megill allowed five hits and struck out six with one walk over six innings.

“I would be a little picky to find fault with him tonight,” manager Buck Showalter said. “He was competitive and really got after hitters and was aggressive against a team that is operating on all cylinders, on the road. It’s a good start for him.”

Starling Marte will work out with the Mets on Tuesday at Citi Field and potentially return from the injured list during the season-concluding homestand.

The veteran outfielder, who has been rehabbing from a right groin strain, last played for the Mets on Aug. 5.

“The plan is for him to play some games before the season is over and it looks like he will be able to make that,” Showalter said.

Peyton Battenfield was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse, giving the Mets a fresh arm in the bullpen, and Jeff Brigham was optioned.

Showalter has been monitoring the usage of Adam Ottavino and Brooks Raley in particular during this final stretch to ensure both veterans are kept fresh for next season.

The Phillies held a pregame ceremony to induct Scott Rolen into the team’s “Wall of Fame.”

The third baseman was enshrined at Cooperstown over the summer.

Rolen began his career with the Phillies from 1996-2002.

DJ Stewart was available off the bench according to Showalter, but did not play for a third straight game with wrist soreness. The outfielder was hit by a thrown ball during batting practice Wednesday.
