- Patrick Stewart said that Tom Hardy didn’t interact with the “Star Trek: Nemesis” cast.

In his new memoir, “Making It So,” legendary actor Patrick Stewart is reminiscing on his impressive career on stage and screen, including his iconic “Star Trek” role — and even meeting a young Tom Hardy.
Stewart first took the captain’s chair as Jean-Luc Picard in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” back in 1987, before reprising the role in four movies, including “Star Trek: Nemesis” in 2002, and a recent sequel series.
In his memoir, Stewart remembers working alongside Hardy, who played the movie’s villain.
“And ‘Nemesis,’ which came out in 2002, was particularly weak,” Stewart writes. “I didn’t have a single exciting scene to play, and the actor who portrayed the movie’s villain, Shinzon, was an odd, solitary young man from London. His name was Tom Hardy.”
In “Nemesis,” Shinzon is a clone of Picard, however, Stewart says that he and Hardy didn’t have a particularly close working relationship despite the shared character traits.
“Tom wouldn’t engage with any of us on a social level,” writes Stewart. “Never said, ‘Good morning,’ never said, ‘Goodnight,’ and spent the hours he wasn’t needed on set in his trailer with his girlfriend.”
“He was by no means hostile — it was just challenging to establish any rapport with him,” the “X-Men” actor goes on to write.
After the experience on “Nemesis,” Stewart admits that he didn’t expect we’d see much more of Hardy, who would go on to become a major movie star.
“On the evening Tom wrapped his role, he characteristically left without ceremony or niceties, simply walking out of the door,” Stewart writes. “As it closed, I said quietly to Brent and Jonathan, ‘And there goes someone I think we shall never hear of again.’ It gives me nothing but pleasure that Tom has proven me so wrong.”
Since his brief foray into the “Star Trek” universe, Hardy has found success in other big franchises, playing Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises,” Max Rockatansky in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and Eddie Brock in “Venom.”
Representatives for Hardy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
