Buckeyes icon Maurice Clarett thinks it’s time for the end of the Ryan Day era.
Following No. 2 Ohio State’s 30–24 loss to No. 3 Michigan on Saturday — their third straight defeat in the rivalry — Clarett made a succinct case why he believes Day should be fired.
“Ryan Day…. Love you bro but gotta go. This is why you’re paid millions. Can’t get paid 9’ms and lose 3 straight,” Clarett wrote on X following the loss.
The Buckeyes are 11-1 while the Wolverines, who will face Iowa in the Big Ten title game on Saturday, improved to 12-0.
But Clarett sang a much different tune before the game on X, expressing confidence Day would find a way to beat Michigan.
“Ryan Day gone get the victory today. I think him, the team and coaches tired of hearing about it. Got to get the monkey off his back,” Clarett wrote the morning of the game.
Despite their otherwise stellar season, the loss likely eliminated Ohio State from the College Football Playoffs.
Clarret also warned that criticism is a part of Day’s job, and fans might not be so patient as to wait for him to produce the win they need.
“We live in a weird world,” he wrote. “Part of coaching is praise and criticism. It comes with the space. That 9 million dollar salary comes with expectations and judgement. We are all fans. Everyone isn’t and won’t be so patient.”
