McDreamy isn’t quite everyone’s dreamboat.
People’s newest Sexiest Man Alive, Patrick Dempsey, revealed Tuesday that his family “laughed quite hard” after the “Grey’s Anatomy” star told them the news.
“They were like, ‘No, seriously, who is it?’” Dempsey, 57, told Jimmy Kimmel.
Kimmel, 55, announced the winner of the honor on his show Tuesday night.
The “Enchanted” star initially appeared shrouded onstage in a glass box next to Kimmel as audience members asked him questions in an attempt to learn his identity.
Kimmel helped narrow down the list — which included “Dune” star Timothée Chalamet, Harry Styles and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce — by telling the audience they were a “star of one of the most popular television series of all time.”
The late-night host also added that the person had “played a doctor.”
“Are you George Clooney?” one eager audience member asked, referring to the “Ocean’s Eleven” actor’s role in the television show “ER.”
“Are you Dr. McDreamy?” another member guessed, which Dempsey confirmed to tremendous cheers.
According to Dempsey, who claimed the title from “Captain America” star Chris Evans, he was also shocked at finally receiving the title, as he was a runner-up in previous years.
“And then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid! I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position,” Dempsey added. “So my ego is good.”
Despite his family’s confusion, the “Sweet Home Alabama” star welcomes their fun jabs.
“[They’re] just going to make fun of me and pick on me and figure out every reason why I shouldn’t be,” he laughed. “Which is good, they keep me young.”
While some are happy about Dempsey’s pick, People magazine’s also been roasted, with critics saying the actor is irrelevant.
“Why are these always so random like Patrick Dempsey hasn’t even done anything this year. did I miss something,” a social media user wrote.
“Did I travel back in time to 2005 like the smash hit TV show ‘Bodies’ on Netflix because — and love him to bits but — how is Patrick Dempsey, in the year of Beyoncé 2023 the sexist man alive,” a second person snarked.
“Excuse me? Did People magazine forget that the beginning of the year was dominated by Pedro Pascal … He should have had this in the bag. You had one job & you failed,” a third user chided.
But Dempsey told People, “I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life. It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.”
