Patrick Mahomes really wants to play Olympic flag football in 2028

Patrick Mahomes wants to add Olympic gold medalist to his already Hall-of-Fame-worthy resume.

The star Chief quarterback is interested in playing flag football at the 2028 Summer Olympics, which will be hosted on American soil in Los Angeles.

Flag football will become an Olympic sport for the first time, and Team USA is expected to run the table, assuming a healthy portion of their athletes will consist of active NFL players.

It’s a contingent the 28-year-old Mahomes, who’ll be 32 years old at that point, wishes to be a part of.

“I definitely want to. But I’ve seen some of those guys play the flag football. They’re a little faster than I am,” he said, per the Associated Press, ahead of the Chiefs’ big game against the Dolphins in Germany this Sunday. “I know there’s not like linemen blocking for you. I’ll be 31, 32 years old.

“So if I can still move around then, I’m going to try to get out there and throw the football around maybe in LA.”

Flag football was one of the five new sports approved by the International Olympic Committee to be part of the California-bases 2028 Games.

The games will consist of 5-on-5, 50-yard action with no linemen on either side of the ball.

Among the NFL players who have publicly voiced their interest is Mahomes’ former teammate Tyreek Hill, who’ll be on opposite sidelines this weekend in Frankfurt.

Hill, who won Super Bowl LIV alongside Mahomes in 2020, has discussed his interest in playing in the 2028 Olympics.

“Just being able to say, ‘Hey, I was able to play on the Olympic level and compete for a medal for the U.S.’ That would be special,” he said on the “It Needed to be Said” podcast in October. “Who wouldn’t want to do that? Travel to LA and compete in a flag championship. I think it would be so dope if other NFL players buy into that.

“If they’re serious about bringing flag football, sign me up. Sign the Cheetah up.”
