Pauly Shore proposes to Drew Barrymore on TV: ‘Not about sex’

Will it be “I do” or “I don’t?”

Pauly Shore shocked the audience of “The Drew Barrymore Show” when he proposed to the host while onstage during the end of Friday’s episode.

“The Jam in the Van Show” star sat down with Barrymore, 48, to discuss his podcast, but the conversation also included mention of his late mother Mitzi Shore, who co-founded the Comedy Store in Los Angeles.

“It’s weird because I’m not in a relationship now,” the 55-year-old comedian revealed. “It’s very, very difficult for me to have a girlfriend because it’s hard for me to let love in, because I’m scared to get hurt.”

“Someone that, it’s not about sex, it’s not about how you look, it’s about, ‘Yo, let’s go get a sandwich,’ ” he added. “You know what I mean? More of a friendship.”

Shore, who has been friends with Barrymore for decades and even babysat her when they were younger, proceeded to pour his heart out to his potential bride-to-be after she asked him pointedly what he’s afraid of.

“Well, I want to do it with the right person,” Shore said, adding that he was on the hunt for a “best friend.”

“That’s the most important thing,” he added.

“Well, I want you to find that friend and companion that you never have sex with,” Barrymore responded, “and that you walk the dog and eat and hang out and — well, maybe occasional sex, but have the best friendship with.”

As the show came to an end, the “Encino Man” star then took the stage and turned the conversation back to his mother, who was one of Barrymore’s personal idols.

“What Drew doesn’t know is that my mother was not happy when you married Tom Green,” he said in reference to Barrymore’s yearlong marriage that ended in 2002. “And she said to me, she goes, ‘Pauly, Drew should marry you.’ “

Visibly stunned and confused, Barrymore, standing with the audience, retorted: “That’s how Mitzi felt?” Shore, laughing, answered, “No, that’s how I feel, too.”

Shore then got down on one knee and as Barrymore covered her face in amazement said, “And that’s why I came here tonight, on this glorious night, to present you with a ring.”

As the crowd cheered, the "50 First Dates" actress decided to leave the audience and viewers in suspense, telling them they'd have to "stay tuned" until the show's next episode to "find out my answer."

Not sure if Shore was being serious or not, Barrymore asked: “Are you proposing, Pauly?”

“I duly wed,” he replied, presenting Barrymore with a very large, jeweled ring. “Might as well, right? I mean, it makes sense!”

Barrymore then slipped the ring on her finger and exclaimed, “This is an amazing engagement ring, by the way.”

“This is exciting! Wow, what do you think?” Shore asked, hyping up the crowd. “It’s pretty big.”

As the crowd cheered, the “E.T. the Extra Terrestrial” actress decided to leave the audience and viewers in suspense, telling them they’d have to “stay tuned” until the show’s next episode to “find out my answer.”

“This has been a wild ride!” she said with glee. “Pauly Shore, I love you so much!”
