There’s something rotten in State College.
No. 7 Penn State opened its 2023 season on Saturday with a convincing 38-15 win over West Virginia, but not everyone was smiling in Happy Valley.
That’s because of a head-scratching play in the final moments of the game.
With 13 seconds left in the fourth quarter and the Nittany Lions facing second-and-goal while up 31-15, Penn State opted not to take a knee and run out the clock.
Instead, backup quarterback Beau Pribula took the snap and found the end zone.
The extra point was good, and Penn State had its 38-15 win.
The Nittany Lions were favored by 20.5 points going into the game.
The garbage-time touchdown meant Penn State covered the spread.
The over/under line on the game was 52 on BetMGM.
The end-of-game touchdown pushed the total score of the game to 53 points.

Fans on social media were quick to point out the conspicuous changes for bettors.
“You can’t tell me James Franklin didn’t know what the spread and total was in tonight’s game. He covered both with 6 seconds left when he could’ve taken a knee…lmao,” one fan noted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Another tweeted, “James Franklin. Unbelievable – he knew the number.”
Look for Penn State to be a heavy favorite again in Week 2 when it hosts FCS foe Delaware in Beaver Stadium on Saturday.
